SPADE TO BURY PENBRIDGE PROPOSAL

SPADE is an action group of Sunningwell and Bayworth Parishioners campaigning against the proposal to build up to 6000 houses on Green Belt land between the villages of Sunningwell, Bayworth and the A34.

The Penbridge proposal is not a formal planning application, and little information has as yet been provided by the developers who are using the Oxfordshire County Council Structure Plan public consultation process in an attempt to enable the scheme to go ahead.

SPADE has co-ordinated the public response to the structure plan from Sunningwell, Bayworth and the surrounding area, highlighting why a proposal on the scale of Penbridge would be totally inappropriate for the locality. SPADE has delivered over 350 responses to the structure plan to Councillor Anne Purse on behalf of local residents.

Robert Warne, acting Chair of SPADE said:

“This development, which includes up to 6000 houses, a waste incineration plant and a park and ride scheme, is a wholly inappropriate intrusion into Oxford’s Green Belt. Local people are particularly concerned that the proposed development would overwhelm the local area, particularly as in addition to the traffic created by the housing development, the park and ride and waste incineration plant would both bring large amounts of traffic into the area, via the already overburdened road infrastructure.”

Anne Purse, the Executive Member for Strategic Planning at Oxfordshire County Council said:

“The draft Structure Plan for Oxfordshire contains strong policies to protect the county’s Green Belt and the proposed Penbridge development is not included in the draft plan.”

”Anyone who feels strongly about any of the issues should make their views heard and engage in the democratic process. For this reason I am very happy to have been able to receive these response forms from residents in Oxfordshire who are exercising their right.”
