We, the undersigned, petition Oxfordshire County Councillors to oppose inappropriate development in the Oxfordshire Green Belt. Government advice (PPG2 - Green Belts) states that alteration to the green belt should only be considered in exceptional circumstances.
The draft OCC structure plan did not establish the exceptional circumstances needed to override this policy. Such need can only be demonstrated by a comprehensive, rigorous and objective examination of relevant factors and alternatives. Failure to maintain a strong green belt policy has, and will continue to encourage opportunistic development proposals by landowners caring little about the rural environment, local infrastructure or the lives of local residents. The Penbridge proposal that threatens to engulf Sunningwell Parish is such a scheme.
